At the funeral mass, Father Paul Farren said that even in the darkest moments John Hume never lost faith in peace.

Mourners heard that many people are alive today due to Mr Hume's visionary efforts to bring peace to Northern Ireland.

President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Northern Ireland's political leaders joined family members for the service for the Nobel Laureate and celebrated man of peace.
