Bobby Ryan's daughter 'will never forgive' Patrick Quirke

The daughter of Bobby Ryan from Co Tipperary has said she will never forgive the man who killed her father.

Bobby Ryan, a part-time DJ known as Mr Moonlight, went missing in June 2011. His body was found in an underground tank 22 months later.

Earlier this week, Tipperary farmer Patrick Quirke was jailed for his murder.

Speaking exclusively on RTÉ's Marian Finucane programme this morning Michelle Ryan said: "Hate is a very strong word, I don't like using it. I will never, ever, ever forgive that man for taking our world away from us, that's what Daddy was.

"I'm not going to use the word hate. As you can imagine I wouldn't be saluting the man."

Ms Ryan described her father as an exceptional man and said he was the "light and soul" of their world.

It is the first time Ms Ryan has spoken since Quirke, 50, of Breanshamore in Tipperary, was found guilty last Wednesday of the 52-year-old's murder.

Ms Ryan said she and her family are struggling to get back to normal and their lives have been turned upside down.

"I don't think that there is any such thing as normal left for us. We're just under eight years of having our world turned absolutely upside down and inside out. There's no returning back to normal for us.

"I'm hoping that the justice got for Daddy will bring us a sense of peace some day, but at the minute it's not looking like that. Justice has been done, but we're never going to have our father back."

Ms Ryan said her children miss their granddad, and she struggled to explain to them what had happened.

She said she tried her best to shield them from what was happening, but her son overheard gossip about Bobby Ryan on the schoolbus one morning.

Ms Ryan said she was very close to her father, and they would often talk on the phone several times a day.

"He was the absolute light and soul of our world. He really was an exceptional man. The only word I can use to describe him was 'wow'. He had a passion for music. When he was behind his machine, you could really feel the passion burning out through him. He could walk into an empty room and get people dancing."

Ms Ryan said a sense of panic went through her on the morning of her father's disappearance.

She said she explained to the guards that it was completely out of character, and that her father would never disappear like that.

Ms Ryan said her father had met Patrick Quirke on a few occasions, but that he "didn't like to be in his company."

She thanked everyone who had taken part in the search effort for her father.
