Hurricane Ophelia was the most searched for term by Irish-based Google users this year.

According to the company's review of trending search terms for 2017, the US President Donald Trump also captured people's curiosity, coming in second on the list.

The crunch Ireland v Denmark football game also grabbed people's attention, ranking third in searches ahead of 13 Reasons Why and the kids craze of the year, Fidget Spinner.

In other categories, Dunkirk was the most searched for movie while when it came to recipes, Spaghetti Bolognese topped the list.

When it came to What is... questions, Google users seemed to be anxious to know more about the antikythera mechanism, an Ancient Greek astronomical computer used as the Google doodle on 17 May this year.

But many people also searched for answers to the questions, What is a hurricane and What is a bitcoin.

The Ireland v Denmark match was the most Googled sporting event, followed by Conor McGregor's high profile fight against Floyd Mayweather.

And surprisingly, the making of slime was the most searched for How to... question.
