Around 7,000 J1 summer work visas will be available to Irish students in 2018.
The programme allows students to live and work in the United States for four months.
Changes were made to the programme in 2016 which required students to have secured a job before travelling to the US.
In 2015, 1,319 Irish people availed of the 12-month J1 visa, and around 7,000 took part in the four-month J1 Summer Work Travel Programme.
More than 160,000 people in Ireland have taken part in the programme over the past 50 years.

Meanwhile, Dustin the Turkey has received a Thanksgiving Pardon at the US Embassy in Dublin.
It is tradition that each Thanksgiving the US President "pardons" a turkey, sparing the bird from becoming dinner and ensuring the rest of its days are spent roaming on a farm.
