An investigation has been launched into the deaths of four people in Co Limerick.

Two adults and two children were found dead in a house in Newcastle West just before 2pm this afternoon.

The area has been sealed off pending a forensic examination.

The State Pathologist’s Office has been alerted.

Gardaí were called by a member of the public to the house this afternoon. When they went in at around 1.50pm, they discovered the bodies of the two adults and two children.

The two children were found upstairs, while the adults were discovered downstairs.

The bodies are still at the scene.

It is believed the four died violent deaths. The children are aged five and one. The woman is their mother.
