The Mental Health Commission has found two centres in Dublin and Limerick to be in breach of conditions of registration relating to staffing at the time of their inspections.
St Joseph's Intellectual Disability Service is located on St Ita’s Campus in Portrane, Co Dublin and Tearmann Ward is in St Camillus’ Hospital on the Shelbourne Road in Limerick.
The Inspector of Mental Health Services Dr Susan Finnerty said: "An appropriate skill mix of staff who have completed all the mandatory training courses in areas such as basic life support, fire safety and management of aggression and violence, is essential for the successful running of an approved inpatient mental health centre."
The MHC said that it takes any breach of condition extremely seriously and that this should serve as a warning to all approved centres.
In relation to St Joseph's Intellectual Disabililty Service, the HSE provided evidence that it has taken direct action to address the breach and implement sustained improvements in this area.
In the case of Tearman Ward, the Commission said the HSE has provided evidence of comprehensive arrangements to address this matter and maintain compliance in the future.
