CervicalCheck has said GPs and community clinics are under more pressure as a result of the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The national screening service has warned that some GPs may not be able to offer cervical screening appointments in the short-term.
It is advising those seeking to book appointments that they may not be able to do so immediately.
CervicalCheck has also asked people to keep in contact with their GP or clinic and rebook as soon as they can.
The screening service said it is keeping the situation under review and will make decisions in line with Health Service Executive and National Public Health Emergency Team advice.
Screening was suspended during the first wave in March last year and resumed in July, resulting in a large backlog of screening tests.
