The Government has launched a new mental health policy, known as "Sharing the Vision".

It replaces a Vision for Change, a ten-year mental health policy, which expired in 2016.

The Department of Health said the new policy focuses on promotion, prevention and early intervention, service access, co-ordination and continuity of care, social inclusion, accountability and continuous improvement.

Chairperson of the Oversight Group on Mental Health Hugh Kane said the new policy focuses on developing a broad-based, whole of system healthcare policy, while providing effective specialist mental health services.

The policy will be implemented "in due course".

A national implementation monitoring committee will be established to implement a framework to deliver Sharing the Vision Mental Health policy.
