There were 486 patients waiting for admission to a hospital bed this morning, according to figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

The figures are down on the same comparable day last year when there were 552 patients waiting.

The worst-affected hospitals are University Hospital Limerick with 44 patients, Cork University Hospital with 38 waiting and Connolly Hospital with 36 patients.

The HSE's 'TrolleyGar' figures, which just count patients on trolleys in emergency departments, are also down by around 10%, on this day last year and show 373 patients waiting.
