Overall waiting lists for patients to be treated or seen at hospitals reduced slightly last month to 704,743 patients.

The latest figures for July are from the National Treatment Purchase Fund and show a reduction of 1,350 patients on the previous month.

There are over seven types of waiting lists and some lists reduced, while others increased.

Waiting lists for inpatient and day case treatment (for those waiting for an appointment date) reduced slightly.

The outpatient waiting list increased by 260 to 511,675.

Minister for Health Simon Harris said that compared with a year ago, the number of patients waiting for inpatient or day case care had reduced by nearly 10,000.

The Government recently promised to cut this list by 20,000 by the end of the year.
