Tax and health on agenda in General Election campaign

Political parties continued to outline their policies today with nine days to go to the General Election.

Fine Gael set out what it terms its "fair tax plan" in Dublin with Paschal Donohoe saying his party wants to see middle income earners keep more of their money.

Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin outlined his party's approach to the next phase of Brexit during a speech at the Institute for International and European Affairs in Dublin.

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald visited the Saol Project in the north inner city and addressed the issue of drug/alcohol support services.

The party is pledging to ensure a minister for drugs and alcohol misuse sits at the Cabinet table and to increase funding for national strategies in both areas by €12m.

The Labour Party published its proposals on health in Limerick.

The Social Democrats launched the party's disability policy in Dublin.

Elsewhere, People Before Profit held a news conference in Dublin to appeal to Sinn Féin not to go into coalition with Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael.

Meanwhile, the final television debate involving the seven main party leaders will take place on Virgin Media One tonight.

Matt Cooper and Ivan Yates will co-host the debate, which starts at 9.30pm.
