There was "a spike" in contacts to Childline over the Easter period.

The charity answered 933 contacts over the weekend (4–6 April), a rise of 10% compared to the previous week.

Common themes among those who contacted the helpline included mental and emotional health, and family relationships.

Notably, there were 20 suicidal contacts from 18 unique users, which the charity described as "unusually high for a three-day period."

Most were aged between 15–17 and evenly split between male and female users (about 40% each), with the remainder unknown.

Easter is one of the charity's busiest times of the year, according to Listening National Supervisor Elizabeth Donlon Fox.

"For many children, school is a sanctuary, a breathing space from their chaotic home lives," she said.

"They feel more alone and desperate during the holidays when they know that their friends are having fun, while they have to cope with neglect and abuse. Every day of the year, we hear from young people who are often experiencing the worst time of their lives," she added.
