An investigation is under way into the death of a man in his 50s following an incident at a house in Co Dublin.

James 'Jake' Berney was injured in the incident at the property on Foxdene Drive in Balgaddy shortly after 11pm last night.

He was taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The scene at Foxdene Drive has been preserved and examined.

Neighbours said that Mr Berney lived with his elderly father and described him as a nice man who did no harm to others and a lovable rogue.

The garda investigation is being led by a senior investigating officer at Lucan Garda Station.

A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on Mr Berney's body.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity of Foxdene Drive between 11pm and midnight last night and who saw any activity which drew their attention to come forward.

They are also asking that any road users or pedestrians, who may have video footage (including dash-cam) of the area at the time, to contact Lucan Garda Station on 01 6667300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
