The funeral celebration for poet, television presenter and much beloved Dublin street character Pat 'The Hat' Ingoldsby has taken place at Mount Jerome Crematorium in Harold's Cross in Dublin.

He died on 1 March aged 82.

After being told that Mr Ingoldsby had instructed there should be absolutely no smiling, laughing or merriment, the mourners followed his coffin into the Victorian chapel to the strains of 'Mambo No 5'.

Those who attended include musician Brush Shiels, former Republic of Ireland football manager Brian Kerr, and playwright and author Peter Sheridan.

President Michael D Higgins was represented by Commandant Deirdre Newell.

RTÉ presenter Shay Byrne, who was the celebrant, spoke of how he knew Mr Ingoldsby as a character who was part of the fabric of Dublin and said his poetry was "like Pat, unaffected and profoundly human".
