Watch: AI robots help Dublin Airport passengers with bags

Four AI robots have been deployed at Dublin Airport to help passengers with disabilities and additional needs by bringing their carry-on luggage from security to their gate.

The robots - named Sir Bot a Lot, Bilbot Baggins, Handler Bing and K2DC – are operating in Terminal 1 on a trial basis.

Passengers can call a robot using an iPad after security and it will come to meet them. The passenger's luggage goes inside and using a touch-screen, they can tell the robot which gate to bring them to. The robot will then guide the passenger to their gate.

"We’re hoping to help passengers that need an extra hand through the airport," Corrin Foley from the robot innovation team told RTÉ News.

"We found that passengers want to go through the airport themselves. They want to maintain their own autonomy. With the help of the robots, passengers can do the journey themselves, with that extra little bit of a hand."

The robot project is a result of work being done in the airport’s innovation hub.
