Thousands of people have attended the weekly march in Dublin city centre calling for the end to violence in Gaza and for an immediate ceasefire in the region.

The protest, which is organised by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, began at the Garden of Remembrance shortly after 1pm this afternoon.

It is currently travelling to outside Leinster House, where a number of speeches will take place.

During the march, those taking part shouted slogans including "louder, louder, say it more, no more violence, no more war" and "ceasefire now".

This week's march is taking place after Friday's initial decision by the International Court of Justice to order Israel to prevent acts of genocide against Palestinians and to do more to help civilians in Gaza.

However, the ICJ stopped short of ordering a ceasefire as requested by South Africa.

South Africa brought the case to the ICJ earlier this month, asking it to grant emergency measures to halt the fighting, which has killed more than 26,000 Palestinians.
