A man has been taken to hospital after he was stabbed multiple times on Grafton Street this morning.
The victim of the stabbing, who is in his 30s, was taken to St James's Hospital.
A second man in his 30s has been arrested and taken to a Dublin city centre garda station for questioning.
Gardaí say that they are continuing to investigate the incident.
There has been increased focus on crime in the city after a number of high profile assaults in recent weeks.
A spokesperson for Minister for Justice Helen McEntee said that she strongly condemns the assault, saying that "such violence has no place in our society".
Minister McEntee has urged anyone with information to contact gardaí to help "ensure those responsible are punished and face the consequences of their actions".
The spokesperson added that the minister is committed to ensuring Dubliners working and living in the capital, and those who visit the city, are safe and feel safe.
Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice Pa Daly called for action from Government after the incident.
"I am appalled by the details of this latest attack, which is one of a series that have occurred over the summer months," Mr Daly said.
"It is becoming increasingly clear how inappropriate the remarks of Government ministers were, as they refused to accept there was an issue with garda morale and with attacks in the city centre."
