A teenage boy is in a serious condition in hospital after an assault outside a late night venue in Clondalkin, Dublin.

The incident happened outside the Vela Bar and Restaurant in Clondalkin at around 12.30am.

The venue had hosted a Leaving Cert results celebration party attended by more than 150 young people.

The assault happened outside the premises after the event had ended.

It is understood the boy sustained stab injuries.

Emergency services were called and he was brought by ambulance to James Connolly Memorial Hospital where his condition was described as critical.

It is understood he remains in a serious condition in hospital this evening.

Gardaí have completed their technical examination of the scene and the area is no longer sealed off.
