Gardaí investigating the shooting of a man in west Dublin yesterday have questioned four people.

The four have since been released without charge and gardaí say their investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, the 42-year-old victim of yesterday's shooting in Lucan remains in a serious but stable condition at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.

It is believed two gunmen used three getaway cars to carry out the attack, in which the victim was shot in the head, body and arms.

More than ten shots were fired, and a firearm recovered in one of the cars is being forensically examined.

Gardaí say the gunmen first escaped in a white Volkswagen Caddy van, which was found burnt out nearby at Elm Way, Lucan.

They then transferred to an Opel Vectra, which they abandoned and set on fire on Liffey Road in Liffey Valley Park.

Following that, they drove off in a Toyota Avensis, which was left at Fassaroe in Bray, Co Wicklow.

Gardaí in Lucan are appealing to anyone who noticed anything suspicious or any suspicious activity between 8pm and 9pm on Wednesday, 4 September on the Old Bog Road, Killeighter, Kilcock, Co Kildare to come forward.

They are also interested in looking at Dashcam footage from vehicles that travelled this route between 8pm and 9pm.

Meanwhile, investigating officers have appealed to anyone who may have seen two men running from vehicles at Griffeen Glen Park, Elm Way, and Liffey Road, or Blind Lane in Fassaroe, yesterday.

They also appealed to anyone who may have seen any unusual activity in those areas over the last five days, or any drivers who may have dash-cam footage, to contact Lucan Garda Station on 01-666-7300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111, or any garda station.
