A ban on taxis in College Green during the early morning peak is being planned to reduce congestion in the area.

The ban on taxis driving southbound in front of Trinity Collge Dublin between 7am and 10am is due to start on 12 March.

A total of 17 bus routes have also been diverted away from the area because traffic jams since the start of the Luas Cross City. Another ten will be rerouted from 5 March.

The new Luas is failing to maintain its scheduled services because of congestion and bus journey times through College Green increased by up to 143%.

Private cars are already banned from College Green from 7am to 7pm Monday to Friday.

In compensation for the morning time ban, taxis are to be allowed to turn left at the bottom of Dawson Street and use the Luas tracks in front of Trinity College from midnight to 6am.
