A man in his 20s has died following a shooting in Darndale, north Dublin.

The shooting happened at around 4pm, at a laneway adjacent to the Our Lady Immaculate National School.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene but efforts to resuscitate the man failed.

The body remains at the scene, and the area has been sealed off.

Initial reports suggest the victim was known to gardaí and that the shooting could be drugs related.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone with information to contact them at Coolock Garda Station on 01 666 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.

It is the second fatal shooting in the last 24-hours.

A separate investigation is under way into the death of a man whose body was discovered beside a burning car off the M1 motorway in north County Dublin last night.

The victim had been shot a number of times.
