A 19-year-old man has been charged with the murder of Ian Walsh whose body was found at his home in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary earlier this month.

Nathan Hanlon, of Castle View, Ballyneale in Carrick-on-Suir, appeared before a special sitting of Clonmel District Court.

Sergeant Denis Ryan, of Clonmel Garda Station, gave evidence of arresting Mr Hanlon and charging him with the murder of Mr Walsh at Ravenswood, Cregg Road in Carrick-on-Suir, on 2 August.

When cautioned, Sgt Ryan said the accused made no reply.

Solicitor John M Joy requested a psychological assessment and free legal aid for his client.

Both applications were granted by Judge Miriam Walsh who remanded Mr Hanlon in custody to appear again - in person - at Clonmel District Court on 26 August.
