Man charged with murder of mother remanded in custody

A 31-year-old man has been further remanded in custody charged with the murder of his mother and the attempted murder of his father in Co Cavan last weekend.

Gardaí were alerted to what they described as a serious incident in the rural townland of Kilnavart, around 7km west of Ballyconnell.

When gardaí arrived at the family home, Annie Heyneman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 55-year-old's husband, Henk, was found with serious injuries and taken to Cavan General Hospital.

He appeared before Cavan District Court via video-link from Cloverhill Prison.

Judge Raymond Finnegan further remanded the accused in custody to appear before the same court again next Thursday via video-link for the directions of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The judge also said that he noted a request made by Danny Heyneman's solicitor, Damien Rudden for his client to be transferred to Castlerea Prison.
