A man and his son have appeared in court charged in connection with a stabbing incident in which two of his other sons were seriously injured in an ongoing family dispute over property.
Jerry Brennan, 77, and 31-year-old William Brennan, of Longbridge, Ballyhalwick, Dunmanway, Co Cork, appeared before a special sitting of Bantry District Court.
Both men were charged with assault causing harm to John and Jeremiah Junior Brennan last Saturday at Ballyhalwick, Dunmanway, under Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
William Brennan, an electrical engineer, was also charged with producing a hunting knife in the course of assaulting his brothers, contrary to Section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.
His father, Jerry, a pensioner, was charged with having a pocket knife in a public place contrary to Section 9.1 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

The court heard that gardaí were objecting to bail in both cases because of the seriousness of the charges, the nature of the evidence of an ongoing dispute between the father, mother and three sons in relation to a property at Ballyhalwick.
The court was told that both John and Jeremiah Jnr had undergone surgery for their injuries and remain in a stable condition in hospital.
Judge Brendan O'Reilly refused bail in both cases and remanded the men in custody to appear before the district court in Clonakilty on Thursday for instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
