A St John of God brother, who was principal of a school for boys with learning disabilities run by the order, will go on trial in two years' time, charged with indecently assaulting four boys at the school.

Brother Aidan Clohessy, who is 82 and has an address at the Hospitaller order of St John of God, Grenada in Stillorgan, faces nine charges of indecently assaulting four boys on dates between 1968 and 1986.

The offences are alleged to have taken place at St Augustine's School on Carysfort Avenue in Blackrock, Co Dublin, where Brother Clohessy was principal.

A previous order granted to Brother Clohessy’s lawyers in the district court preventing him from being identified was lifted earlier this year by Judge Martin Nolan in the Circuit Criminal Court.

It came after an application by media organisations, including the Irish Mail on Sunday and RTÉ.

A trial date has been set for November 2024.
