A man whose brother was murdered by their sister and her then partner has said he felt justice had been served when the guilty verdicts were delivered by the jury in the trial.

Helen Jones, who is 54, and 43-year-old Keith O'Hara, both of Cahergal Avenue, Mayfield in Cork, were given mandatory life sentences at the Central Criminal Court in Cork.

The Central Criminal Court this morning heard victim impact statements from family members of Paul Jones, who was found dead in the hallway of his home on the Bandon Road in Cork in September 2019.

Mr Jones was stabbed 25 times with a knife and suffered a fractured skull from a machete.

A jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts in the trial of Helen Jones and her then partner Keith O'Hara, who were charged with murder and burglary.

In a victim impact statement read to the court by Detective Sergeant Joe Young, Liam Jones said he felt his brother Paul got justice when he heard the jury verdicts.

He said he had difficulty getting over his brother's death and the manner in which he died.

In a separate victim impact statement, another family member described being shocked, sad, upset and angry over Paul Jones' death.

Mr Justice Michael McGrath described the garda investigation as meticulous.

He jailed Helen Jones and Keith O'Hara for life, for what he said was a senseless, violent and frenzied attack.
