A 22-year-old man has been found guilty of the murder of a man who was shot dead in front of his partner on the driveway of their home three-and-a-half years ago.

He was also convicted of setting fire to the car used in the murder. He will be sentenced to life in prison next month.

The jury of six men and six women took six hours and 19 minutes to reach a majority verdict of 11 to one on the charge of murder.

Nolan shot Mr O’Neill in front of his partner in the driveway of their home at 10pm on 27 May 2015 in what was a gangland murder.

Mr O’Neill’s partner Michelle Usher caught the 35-year-old and brought him in to the living room while another shot smashed the window of the hall door.

Nolan was arrested a few minutes later at nearby Belfry Manor after a detective caught him running from the burning getaway car.

A lighter fell from his hand and he claimed he had only set the car on fire, but firearms residue was found on his gloves, as well as petrol that was also found on his t-shirt, runners and tracksuit bottoms.

CCTV footage also showed three cars "stalking" the victim in the hours before the shooting, and the killer firing four shots at Mr O'Neill and his home, before being driven away in a people carrier.

No motive was given during the trial, but gardaí believe Mr O'Neill crossed a dangerous criminal gang.

The case was adjourned until January for victim impact statements and sentencing, but Nolan now faces the mandatory term of life in prison.
