A teenager has admitted trying to kill a woman in south Dublin last Christmas.
The 16-year-old, who cannot be named because he is under 18, was charged with attempting to murder the woman on 23 December last year at the seafront on Queen's Road in Dún Laoghaire.
He pleaded guilty when the offence was put to him at the Central Criminal Court.
His defence counsel, Patrick Gageby, told the court the boy was currently detained in Oberstown and asked for a lengthy period of time for a probation report to be prepared.
Mr Justice Michael White directed the preparation of such a report and told the boy for his own benefit he should cooperate with the probation services.
Asked by the judge if he understood, the boy replied, "yes".
Mr Justice White also directed a victim impact statement to be prepared.
The sentence hearing will take place next February.
