A Co Monaghan-based construction company has designed a new anti-viral door handle to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 in schools across the country.
Carnehill Joinery, which is based in Scotstown, has also created an air purifying system, which it says kills airborne bacteria.
The door handles they have designed have a coating that is anti-viral and anti-bacterial. Once installed, they are checked every year to ensure they are still working.
Barry Cremin, Sales Manager with Carnehill Joinery, said the Government guidelines indicate that contact transmission has a massive part in the spread of Covid-19 and other viruses we might face down the line.
He said with that in mind the company went away and came up with some solutions that may help stop the spread in schools and offices.
"While our door handles are not the only anti-bacterial door handles on the Irish market, they are unique in that they are anti-bacterial and anti-viral," he said.

He explained the coating can kill almost all bacteria.
"The coating that is applied to our handles is independently tested and it has a 99.9% kill rate against bacteria" he added.
The air purifying system is World Health Organization approved, and they kill bacteria which is airborne.
"They leave your classrooms and offices with fresh air that is bacteria free," he said.
The system has been installed by Carnehill Joinery at Urbleshanny National School in Scotstown free of charge.
The company is located across the road from the school and said it was their way of giving back.
Principal of Urbleshanny National School, Nuala Mhic Gabhann, said she was bowled over with the technology and what it can do.
"Into the future, with every winter that comes on us, wouldn't it be wonderful to have this technology in your school, I'm blown away, it’s incredible," she said.
