A section of a multi-million euro road project in Co Mayo is being opened to traffic this morning.
The Castlebar bypass forms a 10km section of the new N5 to Westport.
The dual carriageway being opened today extends from a new N5 roundabout at Turlough, to the Westport Road, on the far side of the town.
Interchanges on the road, linking to the N60 and N84, will also open.
The development is part of an overall 25km route, running from Westport to Turlough, which will fully open in the next six weeks.
Mayo County Council has said that a formal opening of road will take place when the project is completed, on a date yet to be confirmed.
The Government signed off on the upgrade road in October 2019.
At the time, the then Rural and Community Development Minister Michael Ring said the spend marked the largest ever Government investment in Mayo.
