Central Bank Governor reappointed for second 7 year term

The Government has reappointed the Governor of the Central Bank Gabriel Makhlouf for a second seven-year term.

Mr Makhlouf has been in the position since September 2019.

He is also a member of the European Central Bank Governing Council.

Before joining the Central Bank here, Mr Makhlouf was Secretary to the New Zealand Treasury and its chief executive from 2011 to 2019.

He has also held roles in the UK civil service at HM Revenue and Customs' Debt Management & Banking Directorate.

"During his first term, Mr Makhlouf introduced reforms and enhancements that have strengthened the Central Bank and will continue to positively impact its performance," Minister for Finance Simon Harris said as he announced the reappointment.

His second term will commence on September 1 this year
