The Commission for Communications Regulation has made available an online consumer resource called Broadband Checker (comreg.ie/broadbandchecker).

This online resource on ComReg.ie is designed to help people find what fixed broadband options are available in their locality.

People can simply enter either an Eircode or an address into Broadband Checker to find out what what broadband is available in a particular location.

If broadband is available or planned, a table showing the Network Operator, type of broadband (for example, fibre) and its speed will be able to be seen.

ComReg's 2023 Broadband Connectivity consumer survey revealed that 44% of respondents now work from home online at least one day a week, while a third of respondents work from home online at least three days a week.

It found that working from home online is most common among people in densely populated areas and with access to higher broadband speeds. Broadband is seen as an essential service by 78% of respondents

ComReg said that connectivity matters for everyone as we are all spending more time online than ever before.

"Broadband services are important to our economic and social lives. Services provided over broadband are having a transformative effect on education, entertainment, retailing and so many other areas," it added.

ComReg also said it has further advice and information on broadband and mobile services and technologies on its website.

This includes two tools that allow you to compare mobile and broadband options from different retailers and a mobile coverage map for the country.
