New figures from the Commission for Communications show that fixed broadband subscriber lines increased to 1.64 million in the third quarter of 2023, a rise of 2.8% compared to the same time last year.
ComReg noted of thise subscriptions, nearly 620,000 were fibre-to-the premises (FTTP) subscriber lines.
These FTTP lines now represent 37.6% of total fixed broadband subscriber lines, up from 28.9% in the third quarter of 2022.
ComReg noted that FTTP is the most commonly purchased broadband technology in Ireland.
Today's figures also show that an average residential fixed broadband subscriber line used 403.9 GB of
data on a monthly basis, an increase of 9.7% since last year.
Meanwhile, total voice traffic minutes decreased by 3.7% this quarter compared to the second quarter of 2023 and were 25% lower than in the third q uarter of 2022.
ComReg said that on a monthly basis an average mobile voice subscriber used 138 minutes - down 4.8% on the same time last year. They also sent 30 texts - up 20.1% on 2022 - and used 13.9GB of data, which marked an annual increase of 5.9%.
Total mobile subscriptions increased to 9.5 million, on the back of a rise in post pay subscriptions which now represent 74% of all mobile subscriptions.
5G subscribers increased to 1.4 million in the three months from July to September of this year - a jump of 69% on last year.
