The European Union's top court has today dismissed an appeal by Ryanair against support measures that were put in place by France and Sweden in the spring of 2020 to help rivals cope with the Covid pandemic.

Last month Ryanair also failed in its attempts to say that state aid received by two airlines during the Covid-19 pandemic was not compatible with the EU's internal market.

A European Union court said the state aid Alitalia and Lufthansa subsidiary Brussels Airlines received during Covid - which led to a standstill of air travel - was compatible with EU's internal market.

And in September, the airline lost its appeal against Danish and Swedish state aid to pandemic-hit SAS airline, which was approved by EU competition authorities.

Shares in the airline were lower in Dublin trade today.
