The latest report on the electronic communications market shows the estimated household broadband penetration rate was higher than the European Union average.
The latest report from the Commission for Communications Regulation said that broadband penetration - both fixed and mobile - stood at 86% compared to the EU average of 83%.
By the end of the second quarter of 2017, fixed broadband subscriptions stood at 1.379 million, an increase of 3.6% on the same time last year.
The ComReg report also noted that broadband speeds continued to increase.
In the second quarter of this year about 80.3% of all fixed broadband subscriptions were equal to or greater than 10Mpbs, up from 75.1% in the second quarter of last year.
But total voice traffic minutes fell by 0.7% on a quarterly basis, while they were 3.3% lower on an annual basis.
ComReg noted that mobile voice minutes were up 1% while fixed voice minutes fell by 6%.
On a monthly basis, an average mobile voice subscriber talked for 214 minutes - down 2.2% on an annual basis.
They also sent 84 texts - down 14.7% - while they used 4.1 GB of data - a jump of 73%.
