DUP accuses May of 'contracting out the future of Brexit'

The DUP statement accuses Theresa May of 'failing to deliver a sensible Brexit deal'

The DUP has criticised the latest initiative by British Prime Minister Theresa May, accusing her sub-contracting out the future of Brexit to Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Mrs May's Downing Street statement last night, following a lengthy cabinet meeting, offers no comfort to the DUP, whose ten MPs are keeping her minority government in power.

She remains determined to get her Brexit deal voted through Westminster, even though it contains the backstop provision the DUP opposes.

And having failed at three attempts to get support from the DUP's ten MPs and a section of the European Research Group, she has now changed tack and is attempting to do a deal with Labour and other opposition parties.

The DUP statement accuses her of sub-contracting out the future of Brexit to Mr Corbyn.

The DUP statement is similar in tone to the reactions of the likes of Jacob Rees-Mogg and Boris Johnson, who changed their minds and voted for the Withdrawal Agreement, and former Northern Ireland secretary Owen Paterson who favoured a no-deal exit.

But the DUP response does not say how ire might be translated into action.
