Leinster House was all abuzz.

The RTÉ spending and payment circus looked like it was returning to town.

No, it was not quite as febrile as July 2023, but there was a feeling that a new scandal was gathering steam.

The tent had already been pitched down in the committee rooms where senior RTÉ management will appear tomorrow.

Those who had sat around the Cabinet table this morning whispered they had heard a Pandora's box might be opened.

The revision of Derek Mooney's pay status might lead to many more similar cases being unearthed was the word.

After all, even the Taoiseach believed the "dogs in the wild" knew that Derek Mooney was a presenter.

But after meeting with Minister for Media Patrick O'Donovan, RTÉ's Director General Kevin Bakhurst was adamant that the Mooney case was an isolated one.

No others occupying such a dual role were omitted from the top 10 presenters' pay list.

Minister O'Donovan had asked if there were any other landmines about to detonate?

He was informed that there were not.

The minister appeared to have accepted this saying "I take them at their word".

Kevin Bakhurst suggested too that the organisation had paid the price for being transparent.

That view will most likely not be shared by many on the Arts, Media and Communications Committee.

There is a desire among TDs and Senators for far more transparency.

The Taoiseach too has spoken about opening the bonnet again to deal with what he believes is a "real disparity" around how some staff were treated compared to others.

Until that culture is fully explained and unravelled, the political spotlight is likely to remain on RTÉ's senior management.
