A meeting of the Government's Trade Forum will be held today to discuss the impact of the EU-US trade deal.

The forum, which includes State agencies, business groups, unions and senior ministers, will assess the impact of the 15% tariff on most EU exports into the US, which came into effect on 7 August.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Harris will use the meeting to give an update on developments between the European Union and the United States over the summer.

The developments include the political agreement between US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the EU-US joint statement and the EU’s ongoing legislative process to implement the deal.

Mr Harris is also due to update the forum members on his recent engagement with US Trade Representative Jameson Greer, where they discussed the EU-US Joint Statement and its implementation.

The gathering will also be updated on the Government’s recently published Action Plan on Market Diversification and the Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity, which is being launched today.

Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon will also address the forum on the latest developments in the agri-food sector on foot of the trade deal between the EU and the US.
