Independent TD Barry Heneghan is to move seats in the Dáil chamber away from Tipperary TD Michael Lowry.
The Dublin Bay North TD is understood to be annoyed over what was described as the "toxic" and "intimidating" behaviour that he faced after he was pictured beside the Tipperary TD when Mr Lowry gave a two-fingered gesture to People Before Profit-Solidarity TD Paul Murphy last Tuesday.
The TD has written to Taoiseach Micheál Martin to explain his decision to move seats and to commit to supporting the Programme for Government as long as the issues he was elected on are progressed.
Mr Heneghan will also remain part of the Regional Technical Group but has emphasised to Mr Martin that he is first and foremost an Independent TD.
He told Mr Martin that he had chosen not to align with a political party or the behaviour of other politicians.
He is adamant too that he will not be bullied or intimidated from delivering for his voters.
Mr Heneghan's top priorities include a new A&E for Beaumont Hospital, a permanent school building for Gaelcholáiste Reachrann and to address the housing crisis.
