Enovus Labs is set to become the first Irish company to have cooling technology sent to the Moon.
The firm, which is based in Grangegorman in Dublin, has developed a cooling radiator called 'Segri-COOL' which is designed to ensure the reliable operation of electronic systems in the harsh conditions of the Moon's south pole.
The device will be deployed to the Moon on a lunar mission that is due to launch in the coming weeks.
The Segri-COOL radiator draws inspiration from the heat regulation mechanisms in elephant ears, with a 3D blade design that maximises exposure to the depths of space, reducing solar heating and ensuring functionality throughout the lunar day.
Enovus said that the device is lighter than traditional cooling systems and reduces costs by eliminating the need for embedded heat pipes.

The company is currently expanding Segri-COOL's capabilities for deployments here on Earth where lightweight compact solutions are required.
"We are thrilled to announce the launch of our innovative hardware design to the moon," said Enovus Labs co-founder Nick Jeffers.
"This milestone is not only a significant achievement for our team but also a proud moment for the entire space community in Ireland."
"As we look ahead to 2025, we are excited to expand our company and solidify our position as a key player in the global space sector," Mr Jeffers said.
