Man arrested after body discovered in Co Wexford

A man has been arrested after the body of another man was found at a house in New Ross, Co Wexford.

The deceased has been named locally as John O'Connor.

Gardaí were called to the house in the Cluain Fada housing estate at around 11am and found a man in his 50s in an unresponsive state.

The local coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow.

The scene has been preserved for a technical and forensic examination.

RTÉ News understands that the dead man was from the New Ross area and may have been assaulted before he died.

A man in his 30s has been arrested over the incident and is being held at a garda station in the east of the country.

He is being detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows detectives to question him for up to 24 hours.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed, as well as a family liaison officer.

They are appealing for witnesses to contact them and are seeking any available camera footage, including dashcam, from those who were in the area at the time of the incident.
