Social Democrats leader Holly Cairns and her partner Barry Looney have welcomed their first child.
The baby girl was born at Cork University Maternity Hospital this morning.
Posting an update on her Instagram page, Ms Cairns said "She's here".
She added that she and her partner Barry were "completely in love with her".
Ms Cairns had announced in June that she was expecting her first child.
She was 17 weeks pregnant when she announced she was expecting, saying she held off on announcing the news as she wanted to focus on the General Election.
The baby's arrival means, though, that Ms Cairns will not be able to vote for herself as she bids to retain her Dáil seat in her Cork South West constituency.
The couple do not as yet have a name for the baby.
