Google's new artificial intelligence (AI) tool 'Bard' is available in Ireland and across the EU.

The company unveiled its AI chatbot earlier this year in a bid to compete with ChatGPT which has taken the internet by storm.

The European rollout was delayed last month after the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) raised privacy concerns.

In a blogpost announcing the expansion of the service, Google said that Bard is available across Europe from today.

"As part of our bold and responsible approach to AI, we've proactively engaged with experts, policymakers and privacy regulators on this expansion," the company said.

"And as we bring Bard to more regions and languages over time, we’ll continue to use our AI principles as a guide, incorporate user feedback and take steps to protect people’s privacy and data," Google said.

The DPC said that as a result of its engagement, Google has made a number of changes in advance of the launch, including increased transparency and changes to controls for users.

Deputy Commissioner of the DPC Graham Doyle said: "We will be continuing our engagement with Google in relation to Bard post-launch."

"Google has agreed to carrying out a review and to providing a report to the DPC after three months of Bard becoming operational in the EU," Mr Doyle said.

"In addition, the European Data Protection Board set up a task force earlier this year, of which we are a member, which will look at a wide variety of issues in this space," he added.

Google is regulated by the Irish data watchdog because its EU headquarters are in Dublin.
