The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed no charges following a fresh inquiry into the disappearance and murder of Deirdre Jacob in 1998, gardaí have said.

However, An Garda Síochána says the investigation into the murder remains active.

Ms Jacob was last seen outside her house on the Barretstown Road, Roseberry, outside Newbridge in Co Kildare at around 3pm on Friday 28 July 1998.

She was 18 years old at the time.

As part of this investigation, a file was forward to the Office of the DPP. It recently returned with a direction of "no prosecution".

Gardaí say Ms Jacob's family have been informed and are being continuously liaised with.

Gardaí have continued to appeal to anyone with information on the murder to contact the investigation team at Kildare Garda Station.
