The man was treated at the scene by gardaí and paramedics just after 1pm, before he was taken to Tallaght University Hospital, where his condition is described as serious.

It is believed he had been shot in the head.

Gardaí said a man in his early 50s had been arrested at the scene.

The scene has been preserved for a forensic examination and gardaí at Tallaght are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
