The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is providing consular assistance following the death of a young Irish man in Spain.

Local reports say a 24-year-old man, who was found dead in a swimming pool at a property near Marbella in Andalucia, was one of a group of Irish holidaymakers.

Authorities in Andalucia say emergency services responded to a distress call at 10.25am yesterday morning and found a young man who showed signs of drowning in the pool of a house located on the Camino del Ángel, in the Nueva Andalucía area.

His companions had already pulled him out of the water.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Policia Nacional is investigating the cause of death.
