The Department of Health has confirmed that two more people with Covid-19 have died, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths here to 1,714.
It has also been notified of 13 new confirmed cases of Covid-19. There is now a total of 25,368 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Ireland.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: "The importance of people exercising their own judgement and taking personal responsibility in protecting themselves and others cannot be overstated at this crucial point in the pandemic.
"Hand washing, physical distancing, cough/sneeze etiquette, face coverings and knowing the symptoms of Covid-19 is how every individual can equip themselves to live safely as restrictions are eased."
Yesterday, Dr Holohan revealed that there has been a small number of travel-related cases, adding that the advice in place remains that non-essential travel should still be avoided.
He also noted that approximately half of those diagnosed with Covid-19 in the community "take more than two days from the onset of symptoms to make contact" with their GP.
"The most important actions anyone can take from the moment they experience symptoms associated with Covid-19 is to self-isolate immediately, restrict the movement of household contacts and make phone contact with their GP," Dr Holohan told a press briefing.
There was one further coronavirus-related death recorded in Northern Ireland, bringing the death toll there to 544. Three new confirmed cases were also reported, bringing the total cases in the North to 4,866.
Detailed data from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) as of midnight, Wednesday 17 June (relating to 25,355 cases) reveals 57% are female and 43% are male with a median age of 48.
3,286 cases (13%) have been hospitalised, of these 416 have been admitted to intensive care. A total of 8,154 cases are associated with healthcare workers.
Dublin has the highest number of cases at 12,248 (48% of all cases) followed by Cork with 1,535 cases (6%) and then Kildare with 1,439 cases (6%).
Of those for whom transmission status is known: community transmission accounts for 37%, close contact accounts for 61%, travel abroad accounts for 2%.
Meanwhile, China has released genome sequencing data for the coronavirus responsible for a recent outbreak in Beijing, with officials saying it identified a European strain based on preliminary studies.
The World Health Organization said that data to date suggests that 80% of Covid-19 infections are mild or asymptomatic, 15% are severe infection, requiring oxygen and 5% are critical, requiring ventilation.
Generally, you need to be 15 minutes or more in the vicinity of an infected person, within one to two metres, to be considered at-risk or a close contact.
