Gardaí say a post-mortem examination has confirmed that there was no foul play involved in the death of a baby girl whose body was found on a north Dublin beach.

The remains of the infant were discovered on Bell's beach in Balbriggan yesterday morning.

In a statement this afternoon, gardaí also confirmed that the post-mortem established that the child was a full-term baby girl.

Investigating officers have renewed their appeal for the mother of the child to come forward.

They are also appealing to anyone with any information to contact Balbriggan Garda Station on 01 8020510.

Meanwhile, prayers have been said at masses in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, for the mother and her baby, 

Parishioners at St Peter and Paul’s Church were led in prayers by Fr Brendan Madden and Fr Anthony Gill at both masses today. 

Locals said they were saddened by the tragedy and that the community is ready to support the woman.
