Six people have appeared in court charged in relation to three separate drugs seizures in Dublin by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Finglas Drugs Unit.
John Fortune, 42, with an address in Clifden Drive, Ballyfermot, was charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of sale and supply on the N7 Naas Road in Rathcoole last Thursday.
The court was told that Mr Fortune was driving a van, which contained 40kg of cannabis herb with an estimated value of €800,000.
Gardaí objected to bail due to the the serious nature of the offence, but as Mr Fortune had no previous convictions Judge Paula Murphy granted bail subject to a number of conditions.
He is due to appear again before court on 13 December.
Bernardus Jozef Scherrenberg, 47, and 39-year-old Sugeidys Huve were both charged with possession of cocaine at Liffey Valley in west Dublin on Thursday.
Both made no application for bail but their solicitor Michael French asked that their cases be dealt with together because of the need to get individuals from Holland to give evidence in their cases.
He said Mr Scherrenberg was suffering from cancer and physically struggling at present.
Both are due before court again on 12 December.
Wayne Duffy, 45, of Deerhaven Close in Clonee, Dublin 15 was also charged with possession of cocaine at Liffey Valley in West Dublin.
There was no application for bail and he was remanded in custody to appear before Cloverhill District court next Wednesday, 12 December.
Darren Coughlan, 46, with an address at Ferryhouse Road, Dunboyne, Co Meath was also charged under Section 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act. The court was told that Mr Coughlan was a passenger in a car that was involved in the alleged movement of illegal drugs at Liffey Valley in West Dublin on Thursday.
Garda Darren Caller of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau told the court that 49kg of cocaine, with a total value of €3.43m were seized during the operation.
He objected to bail due to the seriousness of the offence. Judge Murphy refused bail and remanded the man in custody to appear before Cloverhill District Court on Friday 14 December.
Stephen Brady, 26, with an address at Plunkett Crescent in Finglas was charged with possession of cannabis worth an estimated €220,000, which was found at his home during a search.
Gardaí objected to bail but as he has not come to garda attention before, Judge Murphy granted bail subject to a number of conditions.
He is due to appear again before the court on 12 December.
