UCD to admit more students who secure Leaving Cert point upgrades

UCD has said it will admit students who secure Leaving Certificate upgrades this week to courses if those courses have empty places available.

Based on previous years’ figures, the college estimates that around 60 UCD applicants will receive upgrades to their Leaving Certificate results which will make them eligible for courses at UCD.

In the light of the High Court Rebecca Carter ruling, UCD says that on an "exceptional" basis it will waive its 30 September deadline for students, and allow those who wish to take up places this year to do so, subject to availability.

This is the first year that a 30 September deadline was introduced by the college.

UCD said it would continue to advise students in this position to defer their places until next year, given that they will have lost around half a term's worth of tuition.

Around 5,000 students will receive the results of their appeals from the State Examinations Commission this week.

UCD says that there are places available on around 25% of its first year undergraduate courses.

While areas such as Medicine and Commerce are full, areas such as Science, and Computing are among courses where availability remains.
